Abstract

Prosocial behaviours benefit not only the receiver but also the actor. However, do individuals of higher and lower socioeconomic status (SES) benefit equally from acting prosocially? In this ongoing work, I used cross-cultural samples, national representative datasets, and online experiments, demonstrating that prosocial behaviours increase actors' wellbeing, and more for the lower SES individuals than the higher SES ones. I will discuss some possible mechanisms.
