Opportunities for PhD study with CDR
UNRISK (Understanding Uncertainty to Reduce Climate Risks) a NERC Centre for Doctoral Training Centre involving University of Leeds, University College London and University of Exeter, trains students with the multidisciplinary knowledge and skills across climate science, data science and decision science to tackle the pressing challenge of reducing the risks associated with rapid climate change. Applications for the 2027 cohort of funded students will open in November, with a closing date of 13th January 2027.
There are currently 4 projects available involving CDR members, and the links below take you to a fuller project description of each:
- Prioritising Conservation Planning Amid Climate Uncertainty
Primary supervisor: Dr Simon van Baal (ATOD/CDR)
Secondary supervisors: Dr Sajid Siraj (ATOD/CDR), Dr Steffan Hirth (School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability)
- Turning fragmented climate data into decision tools: who is most at risk, and how sure are we?
Primary supervisor: Dr Sajid Siraj (ATODCDR)
Secondary supervisor: Dr Andrea Taylor (ATOD/ School of Earth and Environment/ CDR)
- AI in climate information and communication: What’s the benefit? What’s the danger? What do people trust?
Primary supervisor: Prof. Barbara Summers
Secondary supervisor: Dr Andrea Taylor (ATOD/ School of Earth and Environment/ CDR)
- Communicating model uncertainty in climate information to decision makers
Primary supervisor: Dr Andrea Taylor (ATOD/ School of Earth and Environment/ CDR)
Secondary supervisor: Prof. Barbara Summers
